A quick first try with sand paper and chalk pastel.

as with your "rose quickly", show some coviction in each piece you display... you are putting your soul on the line for public viewing. if you don't seem to care about the piece, then why should the viewer. no such thing as a quick try, or just scratchin' it out. don't sell youself short (even at 5'2").
Amy: I don't agree with the anonymous opinion. The purpose of this blog is to get opinions of approaches; and to display attempts. Experimenting is learning; learning is caring.
When your masterpieces are created, they will hang in the Louvre; where they belong.
Keep trying, experimenting, moving forward. I have yet to see you sell yourself short in anything you creatively do.
